Sushis origins dates back to the 8th century Asian rice fields. Ironically the rice surrounding the fish was usually thrown out before being eaten. The rices main purpose was to preserve the fish. In the early 19th century sushi as we know it was invented by a man named Hanaya Yohe. Around this time, sushi was being served from stalls on the street and used as a on the go snack.
