The Story
The first known example of a burger was in 1885. A man named Charlie Nagreen (pictured) would sell a meatball between two slices of bread at the Seymour Fair. The first example of a burger as we know it was in 1926 when a 16 year old named Lionel Sternberger decided to put cheese on a burger while working at his dad's sandwich shop. Lionel and his dad loved the creation so much that they started selling it at the restaurant and gave it the creative name "cheese hamburger".
